Hunting Distance

Open. One tap. Distance. Hunting Distance opens on aerial imagery and shows the distance from you to the spot you tap. If you are far from the spot or have no GPS, you measure between two places. Free. No account.

Frequently asked questions

It says "Finding your location…".

The app has not yet received a usable GPS signal. Move under open sky and wait a moment. Meanwhile you can measure between two places by tapping two places on the map.

The app asks for Precise Location.

If Precise Location is off, your position is too coarse to measure from you, and the app measures between two places you tap instead. Turn it on under Settings › Hunt Distance › Location.

When does the app measure from me?

If you are on the map, or the spot is less than 1 km (about 1,100 yards) from you, it measures from you. Otherwise your first tap becomes the starting point and the next tap shows the distance. Touch and hold to set a starting point near you. Clear starts over.

How do I find a place?

Tap the magnifying glass and search for a place name or an address. The map moves there and you can measure right away.

Aerial imagery can't be loaded.

Aerial imagery and search come from Apple and need an internet connection.

Can I rely on the distance?

Distances are calculated straight-line distances, and the app is a guidance tool. The GPS position and the positioning of Apple's aerial imagery, whose accuracy Apple does not state, can both cause deviations. Use judgment and common sense.

What does the app store?

Nothing. The app has no account and your location is not stored. See the privacy policy.
